Today, i wanted to reformat my brothers notebook and reinstall Windows XP.
Because he has a bit newer notebook than mine, he has a S-ATA Controller not supported by Windows XP out of the box.
To install Windows XP we need to supply this driver to the setup routine during installation. Most common by pressing F6 and inserting the floppy disk with the driver.
But unfortunately it is a laptop, so my brother has no floppy slot and we need to find another way:
Integrating the Intel Matrix Storage Manager into the Windows XP installation Disk with nLite!
Ok, so lets begin:
We download:
- nLite (just google and download newest version)
- IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager
(from the intel Page: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101 choose OS and download the Floppy Configuration Utility)
, then install nLite and unpack the Storage Manager.
Then copy your whole Windows XP installation CD to a folder on your hard disk drive. For integration a Service Pack, you also need to download it (on how to integrate an service pack should be found various helpful pages).
Ok, preparations are done, now start nLite.
First we choose our favorite language, and after that we tell him the folder of the installation by browsing to the folder where we copied the XP CD to.
We need not to load any presets, so in the next page we can simply click next.
Then we have to choose what we want to integrate, in our case, we only want to integrate some drivers (and perhaps the new service pack)! So click on these buttons. Also click on Bootable ISO. This is what we want to create!
After that we should integrate the drivers. So we choose to integrate multiple drivers and browse to the folder you unpacked the zip-file for the floppy installation.
As he asks which driver, we simply click Ctrl+A and ok so that he will integrate all drivers (in the default Mode: Textmode).
After that we are ready and can now either burn the disk directly or let us create the bootable ISO and burn it with any burning programm (i.e. CDBurnerXP)
Thats it, have fun installing Windows XP
I'm sorry, but for the moment i can't supply the article you estimated. Short information: Standart Windows XP can't recognize the S-ATA Controller. If you don't have the possibility to install the driver during Windows install from an floppy (if i
